MASBROUGH AND THORNHILL COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION: Bingo in the community hall on College Road available Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday evenings 6-8pm.

ST BEDE’S CHURCH: On August 10 some parishioners visited Durham to view the tomb of St Bede and had mass in the private chapel and a guided tour of the cathedral. Masses during the week were said for Mavis Fenoughty, Kate Chapman, Noel Hopwood, Eoghain Hall and yesterday was the requiem of Bernard Joseph Bailey. The Journey in Faith continues for people who are thinking of joining the church or who wish to know more about their faith. It will commence on September 1 at the Immaculate Conception Church, Herringthorpe 7pm.

ST PAUL'S CHURCH: Family communion was celebrated on August 9, Rev Charles Grice officiating. Family communion will be celebrated on Sunday 10.30am with Rev Charles Grice officiating. Holy Communion will be celebrated Wednesday 11am with Rev Charles Grice officiating. St Paul’s now has a website with details of services, events and other information, access via A Church Near You and postcode S61 1AH. There is a box in church for donations of tinned food, biscuits, perfumes etc for The Shiloh Project. Soup and roll lunches on alternate Wednesdays now suspended until mid-September. August 27 – organ recital in church 7pm, organist Elliott Walker, tickets £3, if anyone has a request for a particular piece they should contact St Paul’s ASAP. August 29 – Grand Jumble Fair 11am. A visit to Wentworth Woodhouse stately home is being arranged in mid-October, cost £15, contact churchwardens. Harvest supper with bingo is being arranged for October, more details to follow.
