MALTBY TOWN COUNCIL: The full town council meeting on August 6 was attended by 15 councillors, town clerk Mrs K Butler and members of the public. A letter had been received from a resident concerning fracking issues and enquiring if the Maltby Town Council firework display is well attended and if it is a good use of public money. A letter was received from the Maltby Miners Memorial Community Group thanking Cllr Carratt and fellow councillors for attending the memorial. There was no police report. Information was given about the Neighbourhood Plan. The clerk informed the council that RMBC are in the middle of the Local Plan and until that is completed they cannot send an officer to advise Maltby Town Council on a Neighbourhood Plan. A meeting has been arranged with South Yorkshire Ambulance Service to discuss the purchase of a defibrillator and that all funding is now in place. It was resolved that when the community defibrillator is installed it is in the memory of Bruce Wilson. Information was given about the proposed Aldi site. RMBC informed the clerk that within the original planning application on behalf of Aldi they would have to declare how they would deal with any contamination of land. It was resolved that the clerk arranges for a company to advise on the sound issues in the main hall of the Edward Dunn Memorial Hall. It was reported that delegated powers are being sought to proceed with disposal of land to Maltby Town Council from RMBC. It was reported that Hargreaves had informed the clerk that the white cover on the tip is lime which is used to alkaline the soil to help growth. By the end of September small green shoots should be visible. Cllr Biggin informed the meeting that the Co-op do own all the area of the car park where there are designated parking bays. It was resolved that the clerk works with Stewart Kenny, RMBC officer, on a funding bid to improve the play area on Limetree Park. It was resolved that the clerk contacts the workplace health advisor for ex-miners and invites him to a full town council meeting. It was resolved that an event to try and deter dog fouling is included on the next events agenda. The clerk was asked to contact Hargreaves to ascertain what future plans they have for Maltby Colliery. The meeting chose Rotherham Hospice as its Charity of the Year and is in the memory of Cllr Duckmanton.

MALTBY TOWN COUNCIL GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE: The meeting on July 9 was attended by nine councillors and town clerk Mrs Kate Butler. The clerk told the meeting that she had contacted Dignity concerning the railings at the cemetery but had not received a reply as yet. All town council noticeboards now have the same information and includes which ward each noticeboard is in and who are the corresponding councillors for that ward. The clerk is still waiting for information from RMBC about the war memorial. It was resolved that desk risk assessment needs to be carried out. It was resolved that councillors bring the proposed conditions of hire of the Edward Dunn Memorial Hall, which includes the free let policy, back to the next meeting with any alterations necessary. The meeting was informed that the fire officer will be attending the Edward Dunn Memorial Hall to check the fire risk assessment for the building. The clerk was requested to contact Michal Conlon, Complete Garden Services, for a quote on removing weeds in certain areas of Coronation Park and also to quote on certain pavements being cleared again. The clerk was asked to bring back different proposals for a community clear up to the next meeting. The committee checked through the action plan to ensure the work being carried out has been requested by the Maltby community and is within the Maltby Plan.

MALTBY TOWN COUNCIL EVENTS COMMITTEE: The meeting on July 16 was attended by eight councillors and town clerk Mrs Kate Butler. It was resolved that the clerk looks into ways in which the information day can be included with another event. It was resolved that the clerk brings a list of entertainers to the next meeting who might be invited to perform at the Edward Dunn Memorial Hall following the civic service. It was agreed that the Yorkshire Ambulance Service are booked for the fireworks display and also St John’s Ambulance Service if RMBC Health and Safety deem it necessary. The clerk was asked to contact Jim Liversidge, Maltby Main, to ascertain if they would be prepared to marshal the event. It was resolved that the clerk purchases books from The Book People as presents for Santa’s Grotto at the Christmas lights switch-on and that she also looks into different entertainment and presents the information at the next meeting. It was also resolved that the Christmas lights switch on has carols for the public to sing.

MALTBY TOWN COUNCIL FINANCE AND STAFFING COMMITTEE: The meeting on July 16 was attended by five councillors and town clerk Mrs Kate Butler. Payment and receipt schedules were accepted. It was agreed that Maltby Widows Support Group be granted £100 under Local Government Act 1972 s145. It was resolved that the clerk write to Roll Out The Barrel to ask for the return of the keys to the Edward Dunn Memorial Hall. It was resolved that ELAS is employed again as Human Resources for Maltby Town Council. It was also resolved that the clerk ensures she logs all the hours she works.

MALTBY TOWN COUNCIL HORTICULTURAL SHOW WORKING PARTY: The meeting on August 3 was attended by six members and administrative assistant Rebecca Grayson. Mr P Johnson, Cllr D Sutton and Mr A Bews reported that there had only been nine entries for the garden competition this year. However, it had gone well and it was agreed that the competition would continue next year. Mr P Scholey reported that there had been more entries for the allotment competition than in the previous year and that overall it had gone well. It was agreed that the competition would take place next year. It was agreed that all the administration for the horticultural show would be carried out on the Friday evening before the show and on the Saturday. The presentation would commence at 4.55pm. The chair of the Horticultural Show Working Party, Cllr S Johnson, would announce the winners and Cllr J Carratt, chair of the council, would make the presentations. The auction of donated produce would commence after the presentation and be led by Cllr M Richardson.

BEVAN CRESCENT COMMUNITY GROUP: The Bevan Crescent/AGE UK Rotherham Over 60s group was presented with a birthday cake and card given by AGE UK/Rotherham at the meeting last Thursday. The group celebrated their first year as an affiliated group with AGE UK. Coffee mornings continue to take place in the centre on Tuesdays 10am. Maltby town councillor Keith Stringer holds a surgery every Friday 10am.

MALTBY LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY: The society has had a successful summer season with well-supported visits to Hope Quarry and Stainton Church. The opening meeting of the winter programme will take place at Maltby Library 2pm on Thursday when Dave Fordham, author of the recently published Maltby Main Colliery: The Development of a Mining Community, will be giving a talk. Mr Fordham will also be returning to Maltby Library on the same day 6-7pm for an informal public meet the author and book signing event. Contact 01709/812035.

MALTBY RUNNING CLUB PLAYS HOST: Maltby Running Club played host to a group of runners from Rotherham’s French twin town St Quentin. The guests arrived on September 4 and stayed at the Restover Lodge in Hellaby. Whilst here, they had a visit to the National Coal Mining Museum, were shown around Maltby Leisure Centre and took part in the Bawtry Forest 7 mile Trail Race organised by Maltby Running Club and the Heart Foundation Team. They had a farewell night at the Butchers Arms in Braithwell with entertainment by The Beat Music. On Monday, they returned to St Quentin.
