BRINSWORTH PARISH COUNCIL: The recent gala attracted more than 2,000 people. The event looks set to be repeated next year. Duncan and Ellis Street have recently had a Day of Action, a multi-agency initiative to tackle litter and anti-social behaviour. The parish council, along with representatives from the borough council, police and young peoples services, have been engaging with the community and helping to clean up the area and improve the environment. The Black Path which runs adjacent to SunnyBank Crescent is currently closed whilst work is carried out by Barratt Homes to erect a high security fence following incidents of young people throwing rocks and stones in people’s gardens at the new Field View housing site. Youngsters had been congregating around St George’s steps before causing anti-social behaviour in the area. Plans for a new resource centre incorporating a new library have been moving forward following the successful first stage of a funding bid.  The Big Lottery Fund will now look at the proposed plans in more detail and the parish council will supply more information for the next stage of the funding bid by mid-October. The parish council has agreed to donate £50 to two young cyclists from Brinsworth Comprehensive who have cycled from Brinsworth to Skegness in aid of Cancer Research UK. The donation will be paid directly to the charity to recognise the efforts of the 15-year-olds.

BRINSWORTH LIBRARY: The summer reading challenge is taking place. Youngsters have to read six books over the school holidays and they get an array of prizes, stickers and other goodies. They also receive a certificate of completion. Rhymetime is taking place over the school holidays every Tuesday from 10am for singing, nursery rhymes, stories and crafts. This event is aimed at babies and young children aged up to five. Knit and Natter group meet every Thursday 3-5pm.

BRINSWORTH COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL: From September, the school is being renamed Brinsworth Academy and will have a new logo which will be present on an all new uniform. Headteacher Mr Fone is to retire from his post at the end of the next term in December. The governors have appointed the two current associate headteachers, Mr Barsby and Mr Riches, as co-headteachers from January.
