ART CLUB SHOW: Members of South Cantley Art Group are displaying examples of their work at an exhibition throughout the month in Bawtry Community Library. The exhibition, which includes a painting by the late Dorothy Cook who was a co-founder of the group and who died earlier this year, numbers around 50 exhibits. It also includes their current bi-annual Millennium Challenge competition. Water is the theme of entries and the winner of the contest is Margaret Butler. Judge Terry Chipp gave the first prize to Margaret for the painting a dog entitled Splash. John Helliwell is the winner of the member’s prize with his piece entitled Thirsty Work.

  

JUST THE JOB: Craig Dowie, managing director of the Crown Hotel, has welcomed three new key members of staff. Sheridan Brindley (23) is the new reservations manager while Sophie Germany (20) is the new restaurant manager. Sophie James is returning as restaurant supervisor.

SAFER PETS: The Bawtry RSPCA centre is giving dog and cat owners the opportunity to have their animals microchipped. From April it will be a legal requirement to have all dogs microchipped. From now until the law comes into force the RSPCA centre is offering to microchip animals for £10. The Great North Road centre is open six days a week 11am-4pm, closed Wednesdays.

 

TALKING ANTIQUES: Experienced antiques valuer and former auctioneer Peter Young heads the popular Antiques History Group sessions that have recommenced in the New Hall, Station Road this month. The classes from 2-4pm and programme details can be viewed at www.antiquesclass.com website or by contacting Peter 01777 816609.

  

LIBRARY FRIEND: Townsfolk can become a Friend of Bawtry Community Library. To ensure the long-term continuation of the facility, residents are invited to make a regular monthly donation. The volunteer assistants at the library can provide further information.

 

COMMISIONER CALLING: Canon Dr Alan Billings, the police and crime commissioner for South Yorkshire, has accepted an invitation from Bawtry Town Council to attend its meeting in the New Hall on October 13 7pm.
