ASTON-CUM-AUGHTON HISTORY GROUP: The weekend of Heritage Open Days at the William Layne Reading Room saw visitors looking at the displays and albums of photographs, maps and documents. The group meets on the first and third Mondays of the month 7pm in the Reading Room. On the third Monday of the month there is a speaker.

 

PARISH COUNCIL: A meeting of Aston-cum-Aughton Parish Council took place at the Parish Hall on September 8. The meeting was chaired by Cllr David Knowles. A question was asked about the flowers and lights at the side of Mansfield Road in memory of the tragic accident there recently. There are to be two wayside memorial seats erected near this spot. The council’s website is to be live within the next few weeks after a long delay in setting it up. The Lodge Lane pillar box issue is still ongoing. The police forwarded no reports. A report from the parish council representative on Public Rights of Way was received and included reference to the Vessey Close bridleway which is not yet settled. Cllr Pat Wade agreed to continue in her role as representative to YLCA if elected. Correspondence was received from SYPTE regarding a public consultation on September 4-October 4. Planning issues were discussed, in particular the proposed demolition of 165 Worksop Road at Netherthorpe to develop the land for five houses. Concerned residents gave their views. The next parish council meeting is on October 13.
