ST JAMES’ PARISH CHURCH: Sunday services 10am – 1st family service for all ages with communion, 2nd morning service with thanksgiving and baptisms, 3rd traditional communion service with choir, 4th liquid worship informal creative service with music group, 5th informal communion with music. Last Sunday of month 8am – service of BCP holy communion. Sunday services 6pm – 1st church open until 7pm for quiet space and interactive prayer, 2nd communion service with music group or piano, 3rd taize, celtic or meditation service, 4th said communion no music, 5th no service. Weekday services third Wednesday in month – said communion noon followed by fellowship lunch cost £1. Morning prayer Thursdays 9am in choir stalls. ANSTON HISTORY SOCIETY: Talks on first Monday of month until May. On September 7 Peter Hall gave a talk on The Revolution House in Old Whittington. On October 5 7.30pm in Anston Parish Hall the talk is by Peter Machan on White Peak, Dark Peak Landscape of the Peak District. On November 2 7.30pm, the talk is by John Taylor on The Life and Times of Col W F Cody (Buffalo Bill). On December 7 7.30pm, the talk is by Doug Bradbury on The Life and Times of a Farrier. SK58 BIRDERS: September 7 – the walk to Langold Lake was attended by seven members who recorded 27 species. These included great crested grebe, heron, mute swans, gadwall, male tufted duck, kestrel, great spotted woodpecker, chiffchaff, nuthatch and a treecreeper. A large flock of hirundines were mainly swallows and a few house martins. Also present was a small (lesser) canada goose. Field trip to Spurn Point on September 27 7am, meet in Anston Parish Hall car park, led by Mick Clay, contact him 01909 566000 by 6pm the day before at the latest if interested in joining the trip. Evening indoor meetings (last Wednesday of month) resume on September 30 7.30pm in Anston Parish Hall with a talk by Pete Brown on New Zealand. DINNINGTON AND DISTRICT HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY SHOW: Held on September 12, there were entries for chrysanthemums, pelargoniums, fuchsias, pot plants and flowers and the potatoes grown in a bucket also did well. Lots of jams and chutneys and fine fruit and vegetables and pictures portraying autumn in junior classes also exhibited. The presentation of the trophies was made by Pat and John Morgan. The next evening talk will be by Stephen Gay on Railways in the Yorkshire Landscape on October 12 7.30pm. The Autumn fayre is on October 24 2-4pm, admission 20p. The evening talk on November 9 7.30pm is by Alicia Barker on Clifton House Museum and the evening talk on December 14 7.30pm is by Gerry Kersey on 47 Years in Radio. All events in Anston Parish Hall.
