We are giving a £15K boost to our community

The Rotherham Advertiser has teamed up with the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner to support small groups across the district.

Our new Cash For The Community initiative means vital money for local groups that deserve a bit of support.

It could be a small football club or a group dedicated to boosting their community or putting on popular events.

Groups can apply for a piece of the pie from your favourite community newspaper to a maximum of £1,000 each.

All you have to do is fill in a simple application form and tell us why you need the money. 

A panel — which includes Advertiser editor Andrew Mosley — will go through each application.

Community groups must be non-profit making and the projects seeking cash need to fit in with the Police and Crime Commissioner’s priorities of protecting vulnerable people, tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, and treating people fairly.

Each group that gets a grant will be featured in the paper to highlight what it does and how the money will help.

Advertiser editor Andrew Mosley said: “The Advertiser is really excited to be able to launch this campaign, which we believe will really make a difference to our local community at street level.

“There are a lot of small groups and charities who quietly go about their work without any fuss, giving people a purpose who may otherwise be hanging round the streets, causing problems and getting themselves into trouble.

“These groups may just need a small amount of money to purchase equipment or rent a venue that keeps them going and enables them to make real changes.

“We believe Cash For The Community can make a big difference to Rotherham and we want to hear from as many groups as possible.”

Police and Crime Commissioner Dr Alan Billings said he hoped that the grants would be popular with groups across the area.

He said: “I hope that quite small groups in the Rotherham community will feel they can apply.”

Jamie Noble, head of community at Rotherham United, will be sitting on the grants panel and said he was hoping it would be popular.

He said: “It’s about understanding the community and what the needs are.”
