Singers and dancers strutted their stuff in front of a panel of judges and and a 150-strong audience as they vied for a place in the competition final in two weeks’ time.
Nine acts were chosen and they will be joined in the final by another nine acts from the second heat, which will be held this Sunday.

Hide AdOur overall winner will receive a professional recording session courtesy of The Music Factory, plus £150.
The second and third placed acts will receive £100 and £50 respectively and all the winners will receive trophies and will be invited to represent the Rotherham Advertiser at public events.

Tickets for Sunday’s heat and the final on November 27, are on sale now. They cost £5 for the heat and £7 for the final.

Hide AdBoth events will be held at the Best Western Consort Hotel, Thurcroft, and the final will feature entertainment by last year’s finalists, as well as established performer Adam Lacey and performances from the Gillian Banks Theatre School.
Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start at the heat, and doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start at the final. Food will available to order at both events, as well as drinks at the bar.
A DVD of the final costing £10 will be available to order on the night. Personal video recording is not permitted.

Natalie Newman Natalie kicked off the show with a cover of Jessie J’s Price Tag. Competition judge Andrew Barker said that Natalie had set the standard for the night.

Ashley Gore Ashley, the only male in the heat one, sang Free Falling and accompanied himself on the guitar. Competition judge Sarah Murray said it was a strong audition and good song choice.

Tia Trelor Tia’s cover of Pull The Trigger by Rihanna left the judges “absolutely speechless. Andrew Barker said: “Tia is no stranger to the competition. I told her last year to come back when her voice had matured, and she’s done just that.The performance was flawless.”

Megan Reddish Megan sang Adele’s Make You Feel My Love. Judge Gillian Banks said it was nice to hear her own interpretation of the song, and Andrew Barker said: “That sent shivers down my spine.”

Briony Tracey Briony sang Something Inside So Strong. Judge Peter Parkin said Briony had a nice texture to her voice and, despite a stumble with the words, it was a good performance.

Olivia Payne Olivia performed Hallelujah. Andrew Barker said: “I couldn’t fault the vocals, but there was no emotion.” However, fellow judge Gillian Banks disagreed, and said she could feel the emotion through Olivia’s vocals and it was a beautiful performance.

Emily Hinchcliffe Emily performed Lady Gaga’s Edge of Glory. Sarah Murray said: “You’re a lot better than you think you are - you look incredibly nervous but you relaxed on stage and gave a confident performance.”

Rebecca Beedall Rebecca performed the popular Ed Sheeran song A Team. Sarah Murray said: “Singing a male song is hard, but you made the song your own.”

Bethanie Reddy Bethanie kicked off part two of the show with Adele's Make You Feel My Love. Andrew Barker said he was blown away with the performance and added: “If you're not in the final, then I won’t turn up.”

Hannah Pearson Hannah performed her version of Listen. Peter Parkin said the performance was well delivered and Gillian Banks added the performance was filled with emotion.

Isabel Hague Isabel performed Broken. Judge Gillian Banks said: “It was a dramatic, mature song to take on, but you gave it some real attitude and used the stage well.”

Dawn Oscroft group song The Dawn Oscroft group of singers performed the Bruno Mars tune Marry You. Sarah Murray said the girls “lit up the stage” and Gillian Banks added: “The mix of singing and dancing is hard to do, so keep on practicing to get that right, but you looked like you really enjoyed being up on the stage, which is always nice to see.”

Hannah McDonagh and Rhianne Logan The duo were the second act to take on Ed Sheeran's A Team. Sarah Murray thought the acts would have been stronger as solo performances, and judge Gillian banks agreed and added: “Duets need communication, but it was a tough song to take on, so well done.”

Madeline Laffoley Madeline performed Adele's Someone Like You. Andrew Barker described the performance as “brilliant” and Gillian Banks added: "You had a nervous start, but your confidence developed leading to a strong performance.”

Brooke Oscroft Eight-year-old Brooke, the youngest contestant on the show, sang Who Do You Think You Are. Peter Parkin said: "That was an absolutely fantastic performance." Gillian Banks added: “It was a confident and mature performance, well done.” |

Dawn Oscroft dance group The 14 girls in the Dawn Oscroft dance group performed a high- energy routine. Judge Gillian Banks said: “You gave that some real attitude, it was well synchronized and full of energy,” and Sarah Murray added: “I couldn't take my eyes off you, it was a really tight performance.”

Shannon Burgin Shannon sang Fire To The Rain by Adele. Gillian Banks commented: “It was a big song to sing and it lost you in parts.” Andrew Barker said: “You sang with real attitude and it came out in your performance.”

Sharni Smith Sharni ended the show with Hallelujah. Peter Parkin commented: “You stumbled in parts but you deserve full credit for the effort you gave it.” Andrew Barker added “despite a few slip-ups your voice really shone through in parts.” |
