Walk tribute to Harry

A WALK has been renamed as a tribute to the founder chairman of one of the town’s rambling groups.

Rotherham Metro Ramblers have worked with Rotherham Borough Council to rename the Doorstep Walk number 12 The Harry Rogers Trail at Ravenfield.

The name of the walk—one of a number of short circular walks in the Rotherham countryside, described in leaflets produced by the council—has been changed as a tribute to Mr Rogers as the founder chairman of the Rotherham Metro Ramblers group and as a mark of appreciation for the work he did in Ravenfield.

A short ceremony was held to mark the renaming outside St James’ Church in Ravenfield.

Following the official opening of the trail, Rotherham Metro members and others walked the one-and-a-half mile trail, as Mr Rogers did on many occasions.

A memorial plaque to Mr Rogers, who died in 2009 at the age of 86, has been placed on the stile near the church.

Trail leaflets for the Doorstep Walks are available at the tourist office in All Saints’ Square.
