Villagers’ scarecrow contest to mark Yorkshire Day

A BUMPER crop of scarecrows joined in the fun as villagers celebrated Yorkshire Day in style.

Brampton en le Morthen residents held their first scarecrow contest on Sunday at the first public event since lockdown, with MP Alexander Stafford and his family invited to judge the entries.

The afternoon’s entertainment also include a display by the Sh’ma Kingdom dancers.

Entries for the scarecrow competition included Minion characters, NHS workers, a bride and groom, a macabre horse-headed jockey and Cruella de Vil.

A trio of village characters made by Les and Molly Walker raised a smile and also won the competition.

Village Association secretary Glynis Briddon said: “It was great to see the village community spirit once again after long months of not socialising.”
