South Yorkshire Police Band is after a cornet player to join their number.

The band is made up of players from the county who volunteer their time throughout the year to play at contests, concerts, events and civic occasions such as the annual Remembrance Day parade in Rotherham.

Only a couple of players have a direct connection to South Yorkshire Police, although though they do play in uniform from time to time.

The band rehearses twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays at the Lifewise Centre in Maltby.

Last month, the band joined forces with Rotherham Music Hub at Wickersley School and Sports College for a Kids ‘n’ Kops event where they hosted workshops for young musicians and performed in a joint concert that evening with the Junior Band and the Rotherham Schools Youth Brass Band.

They also recently made a video of themselves playing the hymn Abide with Me in tribute to PC Keith Palmer and victims of the Westminster attack (below).

Any players interested in joining the band should contact Simon Davies via their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/sypbb/ or email [email protected].
