VIDEO: Free concert of historic Spanish music at Wentworth church

The Tallis Consort are giving a free concert at Holy Trinity Church in Wentworth, designed to transport the audience back to 16th-century Spain.

A HISTORIC church will echo to the sound of music from Spain’s most prolific composer next weekend.

The ten-strong vocal group’s programme comes from Tomas Luis de Victoria, featuring his requiem mass of 1603 and and the Tenebrae Responsories from 1585.

Next Saturday’s concert, which starts at 7.30pm, is the first date in a Yorkshire-wide tour by the early music ensemble, which is made up of semi-professional musicians.

Tallis conductor Chris Why said: “It should be a lovely evening of both relaxing and engaging music which is extremely easy to listen to.

“This music is to be enjoyed by everyone: clear your head and unwind in a beautiful venue whilst you’re transported to sixteenth-century Spain.”

The concert is free but donations will be invited, to be split between the choir and church funds.
