VIDEO: Film-maker Dean Sills serves up a snack to turn the stomach

FORGET the old faithful ham sandwich — and tuck into a HAND sandwich instead!

That was the challenge before horror fans after Dearne Valley actor and film-maker Dean Sills put his body on the line in his latest work.

The intrepid silver screen star (51) dreamed up the idea of a body part snack when he decided to enter a competition run for Sheffield Horror Film Festival Celluloid Screams.

The festival's curators challenged creatives to produce “bumper” clips of between 30 and 60 seconds to show before the feature films in last month's line-up.

And Dean’s was one of the lucky 13 picked after finding a compelling approach to the theme of “Shop Til You Drop (Dead)” with a film in the form of an advert or infomercial with a horror twist.

Dean came up with a crazy idea on making a sandwich advert but with a gory alternate filling inside it and produced The Hand Sandwich on his SLR camera with help from son Daniel (22).

“I honestly didn't think my video was good enough to make the final 13, considering it only took me one hour to film and edit the whole thing,” he said after the short made its bow at the Sheffield showcase.

“My son was a huge help when setting the shots up and making sure the focus was right.

“It has given me confidence to experiment more with my camera thanks to this competition.”
