In it, small-time criminal McMurphy feigns insanity to spend a prison term in a psychiatric ward instead.

In trying to lighten the mood, he comes up against the authoritarian Nurse Ratched, who is not about to give up on her regime of discipline and order without a fight.

The 1975 movie starring Jack Nicholson won five Oscars that year for best picture director, actor, actress and screenplay.

Sheffield Theatres has a track record of staging powerful, punchy dramas like Julius Caesar and Camelot — filling such big shoes should be no problem.
