Theatre offers up Autumnal delights

Doncaster’s Cast Theatre will celebrate its third birthday with work by internationally acclaimed companies and award-winning talent. 

Following from the success of The Picture of Doreen Gray, Inspector Norse and Withering Looks, Cast in Doncaster presents the world premiere of Mr Darcy Loses the Plot on October 13 by Yorkshire’s award-winning comedy duo LipService. 

Travels with My Aunt on October 4 to 6 is a funny and frantic theatrical dash around the world as four actors take on over 20 characters. 

A major revival of French Without Tears from October 18 to 22, Terrence Rattigan’s 1936 romantic comedy of mischief, mayhem and misplaced affections, marks the beginning of a new partnership with English Touring Theatre, one of the UK’s most successful touring companies. 

After last year’s Colour of Time success, Cast brings Clash of Drums on September 23, in partnership with Global Streets and Right Up Our Street. It is an explosive free outdoor performance of drums and fireworks.  

Ballet company Ballet Black come to Cast on November 2 for the first time with a triple bill featuring Storyville, a 1920s bittersweet fable set in New Orleans by Christopher Hampson, alongside works by Arthur Pita of The Royal Opera House and Christopher Marney of Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures.

South Yorkshire’s resident orchestra, Ensemble 360, and Music in the Round celebrate Beethoven in Doncaster’s second weekend festival of classical chamber music, Brilliant Beethoven, from September 30 to October 2.

The festival includes four concerts by Ensemble 360, family and children concerts as well as many free activities. A Big Brass Spectacular on October 1 will bring brass players from across the region together for a free outdoor concert in Sir Nigel Gresley Square in front of Cast. 

This year’s pantomime will be Jack and the Beanstalk from December 2 to December 31. 

Alongside the panto, Cast will also be staging a special festive show especially for small children aged three years and up. Twelve Birds of Christmas will be full of magical storytelling and will run in the theatre’s Second Space from December 3 to Christmas Eve.
