Ted Hughes poetry festival returns to Mexborough

A POETRY festival returns to Mexborough for its fourth year next weekend bringing walks, talks and live performances.

The Ted Hughes Poetry Festival will run from September 7 to September 9, at venues in and around Mexborough.

Acts will include readings by acclaimed poets Moor Mother, Mike Garry, Kate Fox, Pete Green, Nick Makoha and Roger Robinson.

There will also be talks on Ted Hughes and Caribbean poet Derek Walcott, as well as workshops for both children and adults.

The three-day event celebrates late Poet Laureate Ted Hughes’ formative years in the town, while championing local writing, heritage, creative activities and The Ted Hughes Trail.

This three-mile trail around Mexborough takes in sites of importance to the to the prize-winning poet, as well as other points of historic interest.

A three-hour walk on September 9 will explore the poet’s childhood paper round, taking in Mexborough and Old Denaby, ending at the Manor Farm pub.

Events are individually priced, or a full weekend pass can be bought for £15.
