Talk at Dinnington craft shop from author who used knitting to beat depression

AN author who is spreading his message about how hobbies such as cooking and crafting can aid mental health is coming to Dinnington.

James McIntosh will visit the Haberdashery on Laughton Road to talk about his new book, Knit and Nibble.

James’ book — which was recently awarded most innovative cookbook in the world at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards — is about how knitting, cooking and mindfulness can add colour to your clothes, food and mind.

Haberdashery owner Fiona Walden said she was keen to bring James to the town.

“He’s known worldwide, he started to knit because of his depression,” said Fiona, who has run the high street store for five years.

“I wanted to bring him to my shop because he’s a man that can knit and I’d like to attact more men to knitting.

“He’ll also discuss how knitting helped him beat his depression — he tells his story in a humourous way.”

Knit and Nibble includes knitting patterns, recipes and games and James believes knitting, or ‘knititation’ as he calls it, can become a beginners tool to mindfulness.

The author will visit Haberdashery on May 21 from 4pm to 6pm.

Tickets cost £10. Visit the Haberdashery to book or call 01909 518 559.
