Survey finds that big budgets are thing of the past

MORE and more couples are opting to spend less than £5,000 on their big day according to a recent survey.

Wedding planning site WeddingChaos.co.uk surveyed more than 4,000 future brides and grooms to find out just how much they are planning on spending on their wedding.

The results show that the lavish weddings of pre-recession times are largely a thing of the past.

WeddingChaos founder David Cartlidge said: “Despite other survey sources that the cost of the ‘average’ wedding is approaching £20,000, our research shows this figure is miles away from actual budgets.

“In actual fact the largest grouping intended to spend less than £5,000 on their big day.

“68 per cent of respondents were planning on spending less than £10,000.

“I think this survey shows that many modern brides and grooms are being much more realistic about their wedding finances.

“You look at some of the extravagances that were previously part of the wedding experience, such as lasering messages onto rose petals, and they seem particularly frivolous given the current financial climate.”
