Sport scheme up and running

MORE than 70 people from a range of organisations have pledged their support for getting Rotherham more active by taking part in an event to explore new opportunities for sport and games across the borough.

The event, which was supported by Rotherham Borough Council and Rotherham United Community Sports Trust, brought people together to look at how a joined up approach could increase participation in exercise.

Some of the suggestions put forward on the day include using green space more creatively, changing the way activities are promoted and working closer with communities to develop fresh opportunities.

“Getting more people active on a regular basis will not only improve the lives of local people, but also help achieve savings across the health and social care sector.”

People at the event included Rotherham public health director, Rotherham public health director, and representatives from Sport England, Rotherham United Community Sports Trust, the local sport development team and borough leisure centres.
