SK58 Birders March 25

Field trip to North Cave Wetlands, near Goole. The first birds were two Oystercatchers. The main scrape was alive with noisy Black-headed Gulls. Amongst them were a few Common Gull and Herring Gull with at least two Mediterranean Gulls. There were good numbers of wildfowl including Gadwall, Little Grebe, Great Crested Grebe, Wigeon, Teal and Shoveler. The islands held good numbers of Redshank, Ruff and Avocet. On the far side of the reserve overlooking a large field, members saw five Buzzard as well as Red Kite and several Kestrel displaying. At the end of the field, passing a stand of trees which held Chiffchaff, there was Corn Bunting. There were three Curlew amid a flock of sheep. Overlooking several lakes, there were several Little Egret, more Shoveler and Greylag Goose. On the main lake there were Snipe and Great Blacked-backed Gull. During the walk back along the main track to the cars, members spotted Reed Bunting and two Tree Sparrow. April 9 – 10am walk around Langold Lake led by Lyn and Geoff Facer, meet at Andy’s Café off A60.
