INFLUENCER, stage star and ex-Love Islander Savanna Darnell has released her debut EP.
Sunflower is a collection of four songs with a soulful, R&B influence, that showcase Savanna’s tender, chilled-out vocals.
The EP features her recently released single 200 Hours, which the dancer and fromer Dinnington pupil penned about her ex-boyfriend.
She says the single is about how you don’t really know your special someone until you've spent 200 hours with them.
The upbeat R&B/pop track reminds us of the little voice inside our head that sparks up in new relationships; take your time and don't skip to the end as Savanna sings, “This is not a fairytale”.
The EP signals a return to music for Savanna, who released her fist single, Bye, Bye, before starring in the ITV2 reality show in 2018.
Explaining her music hiatus, she said: “I took a big break after Love Island to focus on my mental heath.
“I didn’t really want to be doing music when I wasn’t really feeling great.”
Towards the end of last year, she was inspired to write again and went into the studio with her producer brother Dario.
“It’s been my dream for ages to release an EP,” she said. “I would say Sunflower is very soulful - it’s very different to Bye, Bye. It’s not upbeat, it’s chilled.
“I was with a guy at the time I was writing it, so it’s very much inspired by how in love I was and that lovely honeymoon period.”
Releasing an EP during a pandemic has meant no live gigs or promotion, something which she says her dad — August Darnell, lead singer of Kid Creole and The Coconuts — would have found hard.
“My dad was saying to me, if it (the pandemic) would have happened in his time and ruined live gigs, then it would have really changed his career,” she said.
But Savanna is hoping her influencer skills will stand her in good stead, as she is able to connect with fans through her YouTube channel.
Newly single Savanna now has her sights set on New York, where she will be moving to next month.
