Santa gears up for Rotherham sleigh rides

SANTA is on his way to Rotherham — and aiming to ensure as many excited kids get the chance for a meet and greet.

Maltby (Rother Valley) Lions will be out and about with two Santa sleighs in the following areas over the Christmas period, while Rotherham Round Table, Rotherham 41 Club and Rotherham Sitwell Rotary Club will also be helping the festive favourite cross-criss the borough.

The grand tours aim to raise thousands of pounds for donations while also spreading Christmas cheer.

The Lions run two sleighs covering the north and south of their area:

    The schedules for December are as follows:

    7th: Thurcroft (from 5pm). 8th:  Highfield Park/Tickhill Road, Maltby; Kiveton (both 5pm). 9th: Manor Area, Maltby; Wales (6pm). 10th: Sheppy and Little London area, Maltby; Aughton (6pm). 11th: White City and Hellaby; Aston (6pm). 12th: The Chase, Aston (6pm). 13th : Ravenfield, Ravenfield Arms (6pm). 14th: (Cavalier Pub, Ravenfield; Aston Rosegarth area (5pm). 15th: Model Village, Maltby; Aston Manor (5pm). 16th: Birks Holt, Maltby; Laughton Common (6pm). 17th: Braithwell; Throapham (6pm). 18th: Woodsetts 6pm. 19th: no sleigh. 20th: Laughton/Brookhouse/Hooton Levitt; Dinnington High Nook (6pm); 21st: Cliff Hills, Maltby; South Anston (5pm). 22nd: Dale Hill (Lilly Hall Road/Columbus Way Estate), Maltby; Dinnington Church Lane (5pm); 23rd: Dale Hill (Upperfield Road and lower part of estate), Maltby; Lakeland Drive, North Anston (6pm). Christmas Eve: Dale Hill (Scott Walk and side of the New Estate) (5pm); North Anston Wimpey Estate (4.45pm).

    The Round Table, Rotary and Sitwell Rotary sleigh will cover the following areas on these dates in December: 14th: Brinsworth. 15th: Brinsworth. 16th: Brinsworth (5pm). 17th: Stag. 18th: Brecks. 19th: Wickersley. 20th: Bramley. 21st: Canklow (afternoon); Whiston (evening). 22nd: Grange estate. 23rd: Woodlaithes. Christmas Eve: Duke of Norfolk Estate.

    The Lions will also have a static sleigh at Tesco in Maltby on December 6, from 9.30am to 1.30pm, Tesco in Dinnington from 10am to 4pm on December 7 and 21 and Morrisons in Bramley from 9.30am to 3pm on December 14.

    Rotary will also be manning a static sleigh at Asda in Dalton from 10am to 6pm from December 17 to 23.
