Rotherham theatre group YPPA hunt for a Yuppie for new show

A YOUTH theatre company preparing to turn back time to the 80s are looking for a heartbreaker to join the case.

Yorkshire Performance Preparation Academy, also known as YPPA, are searching for their very own Yuppie to star in The Wedding Singer at the Civic Theatre in June.

The company have cast the key roles of Robbie Hart — the titular wedding singer brought to life by Adam Sandler in one of his breakthrough roles — and sweet waitress Julia.

But they need an actor to fill the part of Julia’s fiancé Glenn Gulia (pictured), a handsome and materialistic womaniser (pictured in the 1998 movie, played by Matthew Glave).

Candidates should have acting and singing ability and look over 18 but be under 25.

Creative director, Danyl Turvey said: “We are looking for one more guy to join our cast and have a few places left for young people aged 12 to 25 to join.

“We are also particularly looking for a couple of young people who excel in dance.

“Rehearsals are going fantastic and it promises to be another outstanding smash hit by YPPA.”

Robbie Hart is New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer, a wannabe rock star left devastated when his fiancée jilts him at his own wedding.

Julia gives him fresh hope, only for Robbie to find he is engaged.

Robbie needs to pull off the performance of a decade and get the girl of his dreams before she’s gone forever.

The show comes to the Civic from June 3 to 6.

Tickets priced at £14 are now on sale from the Rotherham Theatres box office in town, on 01709 823621 or 01709 823640 or at www.rotherhamtheatres.co.uk
