Rotherham ramblers asked to comment on state of paths

RIGHT of way users are being encouraged to take part in a national survey by a rambling group.

Rotherham Metro Ramblers wants people to explore local footpaths and report what they find.

It is all part of the Big Pathwatch being run by national walking charity Ramblers which wants to find out what state paths are in so that problems can be addressed.

Frank Faries, of Rotherham Metro Ramblers, said he hopes local people will support the initiative.

People can get involved by downloading the Big Pathwatch smartphone app which allows people to share their experiences as they walk every right of way within a specific grid square. They can note any problems they encounter, as well as share positive feedback about views, wildlife and landscapes.

People can also download information to the www.Ramblers.org.uk/bigpathwatch website where they can find more information about the initiative.

Mr Faries said: “We are incredibly lucky in the Rotherham area to have many amazing paths, from the useful footpaths that allow us to take a shortcut to work, to the paths that take us through the beautiful South Yorkshire countryside.

“We hope everyone in Rotherham will get involved and together we will survey every right of way in the area. It’s as easy as going for a walk and letting us know what you see.

“We know lots of people are passionate about looking after their local area and the Big Pathwatch is the perfect opportunity for people to get involved in protecting the many places they love to walk around Rotherham.”
