Rotherham has lots to be proud of

I HAD the pleasure of meeting some of the organisers of this year’s Race For Life recently and they really impressed me

In fact one of the best things about my job is meeting some people who are really committed to the causes that they help to support.

The list is endless but in recent weeks I’ve been working with the Macmillan fund-raising team, celebrating this year’s centenary with a wide range of events, the South Yorkshire Community Foundation–the organisation responsible for I Love Rotherham and the team behind this year’s Master Cutler’s Challenge which offers businesses £50 to try and make as much money as possible for a dedicated cause.

I’ve also been invited to this year’s Athena Award which recognises women for their leadership roles in business, the community and public services.

17 inspirational Rotherham women have been short-listed for the award who are all acknowledged as making a significant contribution in some way to the quality of life in Rotherham.

Looking down the list I felt really proud of the work being done by women (and men of course) in Rotherham because there are some outstanding people working hard in this town.

I didn’t realise this but Rotherham is the only place in the UK to be affiliated to the Athena International Programme, the main aim of which is to secure a balance in leadership worldwide.

This year’s ceremony is at the Holiday Inn Rotherham on February 25 when the winner will be announced.

Congratulations to all those up for the award and who ever takes home the award will be a worthy winner.
