Recruitment firm has ‘soup-er’ time for charity

A STAFFING firm briefly branched out into catering — and served up £140 for Rotherham Hospice.

Rotherham-based Human Recruitment opened a soup kitchen in their Moorgate Road premises, dishing out dinner to neighbouring businesses.

Staff spent just £1.40 on ingredients — sourcing the rest in generous donations from Urban Pantry Deli, insolvency firm Moorhead Savage and Tesco.

The soup scheme was part of Rotherham Hospice’s BIG Fundraising Challenge, which runs until March 4.

Human founder Amy Stephenson and colleague Caroline Travis took time out to gather ingredients and market the so-called Soup-er Human Soup Kitchen.

Amy said: “Investing back into the local community has been a huge part of the company since Human launched.

“We have always seen profit as a by-product of what we do rather than the reason we do it.

“This approach allows us to add value to the community we work in and for.”

She added: “Rotherham Hospice has been a prominent part of Rotherham and its care system for over 20 years — we couldn’t think of a better way of supporting them than to join in with this fundraiser.”

The event challenge encourages Rotherham businesses, community groups and schools to turn a small loan from Oxley and Coward Solicitors into a donation ten times the size.

Since launching in 2013, Human has helped out good causes like Weston Park Cancer Hospital and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, through its involvement with the Rotherham Real Ale and Music Festival.

Recently the firm has sponsored Rotherham District Sunday League football and offered its services free of charge to literary charity Grimm and Co.
