Rat Pack bring New York, New York to "the New York"

A TRIBUTE act will perform New York, New York at the football stadium which shares the hit’s name.

Rat Pack Live, a trio of singers performing songs by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior, will give the legendary hit an airing at Rotherham United’s New York Stadium at a charity dinner in aid of Rotherham Hospice and children’s medical research charity Action for A-T.

The ‘New York, New York’ event, which has been organised by entrepreneur Mike Housley, will take place on Saturday, October 19.

The famous song was a popular closing number for Sinatra, a member of the so-called Rat Pack group, who were the inspiration for the likes of Michael Buble and Harry Connick Junior.

It has also been adopted as a fan anthem by Rotherham United supporters since they moved to their new home.

Mr Housley, who is from Rotherham and is a Millers fan, has put together the event with the help of a team of people in the Rotherham area.

He has raised more than £85,000 in the last four years for various charities after being diagnosed with cancer in 2014.

Mr Housley has done this through his ‘Big 60’ fundraising initiative which can be found on Facebook as ‘Big 60 Kicking Cancer’.

Mr Housley said: “I’ve been living in Oxfordshire for over 30 years, for work reasons, and have arranged a number of successful fundraising events in that area.

“A few months ago, I saw a fantastic performance by the Rat Pack Live on the Costa del Sol.

“They’ve also performed in Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas and The Riviera Hotel in Palm Springs.

“The Rat Pack Live are on a rare visit to the UK in October so it was a great opportunity to book them to perform at the fantastic Aesseal New York Stadium in Rotherham.

“I also have lots of family and friends who’ve benefited from the excellent Rotherham Hospice — so this is a great chance to say thank you and to give them some support.”

The evening will consist of a three course dinner, live show and comedian, plus a charity prize auction and DJ/dancing until 1am.

Guests will be asked to dress smart casual or to dress up “Vegas-style”.

Tickets are £55 each or £500 for a table of ten and are available from John Barber on 07539 354635 or emailing [email protected].
