Jack’s dilemma comes alive when Rotherham Rep’s new season opens, with their production of Peter Whalley’s Dead of Night.

The taut, small-cast, mystery thriller sees antiques dealer Jack arrested for killing a burglar, only to be acquitted on self-defence grounds.

But as the have-a-go hero retells his story to girlfriend Maggie and their friends Lynne and Dennis, a darker motive becomes slowly apparent.

Directed by Sarah Cleverley, the Rep’s production features Elaine Demaine, Shaun Hollingworth, Mark Hone and Polly Lovegrove.

Mark and Polly will have an especially busy week, as they reprised their roles in Brassed Off at Rotherham Show last weekend.

Dead of Night plays at Rotherham Civic Theatre from tonight (Tuesday) until Friday.
