FRIENDLY postal worker Carol Humphreys has been named as one of the UK’s most-loved posties beating off competition from 20,000 nominations.

Maltby-born Carol (63) is one of six winners of the Thank You, Postie campaign which celebrates posties that have gone above and beyond this year.

Carol, who lives in Maltby and delivers the post for Royal Mail in the area, was nominated by Rachael Kent after her daughter, Freya-Rose, formed a great friendship with her during the first lockdown, even creating their own little dance that they now do each time they see each other.

Carol herself has had her own struggles this year after her daughter was diagnosed with cancer but has continued to spread a little joy on her rounds.

Rachael said: “She has been a constant support to my daughter, who has disabilities.

“Throughout the pandemic she has made sure to speak to her every day. She’s played noughts and crosses with her. They have their own little dance that they do when they see each other. A true friendship has formed between them.

“It’s been amazing to witness and the joy it has brought to my daughter is unforgettable.

“We really appreciate the extra mile she has gone to in order to bring happiness to my daughter’s life.”

Carol said: “My job is hard work but very rewarding and I have met some lovely people over the years.

“After the difficult year me and my family have had, I feel really honoured to have been nominated by Rachael who in my opinion deserves an award herself she is the kindest most thoughtful person you could ever wish to meet.”

The Thank You, Postie campaign, launched by notonthehighstreet.com in November, revealed that more than a quarter of Brits (26 per cent) said their postie had brought them joy since lockdown hit, 12 per cent state they relied on them as a familiar face to see every day, and a fifth (21 per cent) intended to buy their postie thank-you gifts this year.

Hero postie Carol will be awarded with a Christmas delivery to her door in the form of unique food, drink, gifts and decorations from the 5,000 small businesses that sell with notonthehighstreet.com
