PICTURE GALLERY: Children celebrate Eid in style

CHILDREN from different backgrounds came together to celebrate Eid in colourful style.

More than 90 children from Winterhill School and Thorpe Hesley and Dinnington Primaries took part in Bollywood and traditional dancing to mark the annual Muslim holiday.

Youngsters danced to traditional folk song Lathi Ti Chaadar and music from Bollywood film Aaja Nachle.

Winterhill’s English as an Additional Language co-ordinator, Baserah Khan, said: “The event also included an educational video as it’s important that our students learn about each other’s cultures and celebrate the differences.

“We have a thriving multi-cultural school but we invite the children from our feeder primary schools to join us to learn about other students’ cultural backgrounds.”

Ferham restaurant The Orient Express provided food so children and their parents could enjoy a buffe of Asian and English cuisine.

The school is now planning a Christmas celebration where they will invite elderly people living nearby to join them for bingo and renditions of Christmas carols in differenct languages.
