DRAGONS on the water and dinosaurs on the land helped raise an estimated £10,000 for Bluebell Wood.

The charity’s third Dragon Boat Race was contested between 24 teams at Manvers Lake on Saturday.

Quickest was the O&P Construction team, followed by Violia Vikings in second and Arcus taking third place.

Beside the water were lifelike dinosaurs Tricksy and Blue, fairground rides, face painters, barbecue and Yorkshire Owl Rescue.

Events fundraiser Beth Cole said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to the 24 teams that helped us make a splash at this year’s Dragon Boat Race.

“It was my first event, having joined Bluebell Wood in June, and it really was a great day out for competitors and spectators alike.

“We’d like to say a special thanks to our sponsors Loadhog and Gripple, all the vendors who took part, and our phenomenal volunteers, for helping make the event such a success.”

There were also plenty of boats bobbing aout in Bramley on Saturday-  but nobody got wet.

Bramley and Wickersley Lions Club held their Dry Land Regatta and fun day on Flash Lane playing fields in Bramley - you can see them in action here.

As well as holding boat races, there was music, dance displays and dog displays as well as the usual stalls.
