My World: Finally, everyone can stop talking about EastEnders...

*SPOILER ALERT – THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS INFORMATION ABOUT WHO KILLED THE FICTIONAL CHARACTER LUCY BEALE IN EASTENDERS. IF YOU HAVE IT ON SKY PLUS, DO NOT READ FURTHER...*

It seems I could be in the minority when it comes to my views on soap operas, given the recent mass hysteria over an EastEnders storyline.

‘Who killed Lucy Beale?’ was the question on everyone’s lips, the question I’m asking is who really cares?

I mean, come one, it’s not like we haven’t got more pressing things to worry about than a storyline that seems to have been running since the beginning of time.

The producers drag it out for all it’s worth and drain every last tense silence and shifty eye movement just so every character is a suspect.

And that’s something else that grinds my gears, people seem to forget that they are actually characters, not real people!

This was highlighted by what I heard on local radio station Rother FM on my way to work this morning.

Apparently a young lady named Bobby Beale in America was getting angry tweets from EastEnders’ fans as she shares the name of Lucy’s younger half brother, who clocked her over the head with some heavy object to kill her off.

Really?

It’s a sign of our times that people get that caught up in the world of soaps that they actually vent their fury over social media.

But I guess the fat cats at the BBC are rubbing their hands together, marketing campaign to get people interested again, tick.

And while I’m at it, what is with pubs on soaps?

The Queen Vic, The Wool Pack, the Rovers, they are all full every minute of every episode.

The workers of local companies all go there for their lunch hour, their after work tipple and evening social session.

I’m sure that pubs in real life are struggling for business and closing down left, right and centre, but not in the world of the soap opera.

Id soaps are supposed to be a reflection of real life then I’m afraid they’ve got this very wrong.

It would be more realistic to have the pub demolished and a block of student accommodation built on the site!

Like I said before, maybe I’m in the minority here, but the world of the soap is like some parallel universe to me.

I wonder what Corrie will do now to get back in front in the rating war...
