Millers stars back new mental health project

STARS from Rotherham United hope that a new project will show that mental health is just as important as physical health.

The Millers’ Community Sports Fund has received funding from Bupa UK Foundation to launch the MENTALk Health project.

It will see people take part in weekly sports sessions and monthly well-being workshops at the club’s AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Trudi Race, disability officer at the club, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for the trust and could have a great impact on the men of Rotherham.

“Physical and mental health are fundamentally linked, if you feel rubbish mentally, you are likely to neglect your physical health same as if you have poor physical health, it is likely to affect your mental well-being.

“This project enables us to support men to become more active but it also gives us the opportunity to share knowledge and tools that will help promote positive mental well-being.”

Weekly sports sessions will include football, rugby and boxing and the mental health workshops will work on managing emotions and mood, anxiety, depression and health eating.

The project will begin in April.
