Millers bring Christmas cheer to Bluebell Wood

ROTHERHAM United brought presents, Christmas cheer and even snow to Bluebell Wood.

The children’s hospice welcomed players and staff from the club for their annual visit on one of the coldest days of the year.

The footballers came bearing gifts, thanks to a donation by Smyths Toys superstore in Parkgate, had an indoor kickabout with some of the children and also tried their hand at a few board games.

Club captain Lee Frecklington said: “Every time we visit Bluebell Wood we come away with a real sense of just how lucky we are.

“The children and the people working here are the real heroes. The staff do such a wonderful job.

“Christmas is a special time for everyone, and we hope that through our presence today that we have helped spread a little festive cheer to some very special individuals.”

Steve Colton, store manager of Smyths, said: “After a recent visit by Millers manager Paul Warne and Richard O’Donnell, we heard about their planned visit to Bluebell Wood.

“As a toy store we thought that we could help by donating some of our stock for the children.

“We are honoured to play a small part in putting one or two smiles on some very brave faces, especially at this time of year with Christmas on the horizon.”

Bluebell Wood community fundraiser Anna Gott said the Millers were “full of love, laughter and lots of football for our children”.

She added: “Thank you so much to Rotherham United Football Club for helping our families to create some fantastic memories this Christmas.”
