Members appeal for club for adults with learning difficulties

A CLUB for the parents of adults with learning difficulties is appealing for new members.

The ALD Club has been boosted in the past few months by fund-raising efforts but has seen its membership falling over the past two years.

Group member Kevan Roe said: “The club was brought into being ten years ago by parents who were concerned that their family members were lacking a social life and needed a place where they could go on a regular basis.

“This allowed them to meet up with friends in a supervised environment where they could engage in activities other young people take for granted, such as playing pool, going to the pub, cinema or theatre or just simply hanging out with friends.

“The club also provides parents and family members with a small, but very valuable, period of respite from caring for their children.”

Kevan said the closure of the ALD Club, which has been averted by the recent fund-raising could have been devastating for its members and added: “It is very important that we do our best to keep the club going.

“To achieve that we must now actively look for new members as our numbers have depleted over the past two years.”

The ALD Club runs from 7pm to 9pm every Tuesday evening at Middleton Institute in Dinnington.
