ME sufferer appeals for pen pals to get in touch for a chat

PEN PALS are in demand after a woman with a severe health condition appealed for people to chat with.

The would-be writer, who gave her name only as Susan, has been living with Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) and chemical sensitivity for more than 20 years.

She said as a result of her condition, she could talk much, watch TV or work a computer.

Susan said she now wanted to find like-minded people to share their stories - via writing.

“Twenty-three years ago I was really poorly and I didn't know what was wrong with me,” she said.

“I went through a lot of examinations and it turned out to be severe ME.

“I can’t use a computer, I can’t watch TV because of the light and chemical sensitivity — I can't go near any chemicals.”

ME, which is also called chronic fatigue syndrome, is a long-term condition and the most common symptom is extreme tiredness.

Susan added people who had this condition were struggling.

She said: “There is no support for people with ME.

People are just stuck in their homes - they are housebound.

“Because of this illness, I can’t even see my daughter or grandson too much — it’s horrible.”

“There are a lot of people out there in the same situation, with the same illness, no one to talk to, so I’m setting up this pen pal group.”

Anyone who has the same condition or just wants to chat can call Susan for the details on 07757 336116.
