Maltby Crags history on display

RARE photos, documents and maps tracing 200 years of history at Maltby Crags are on display at the town's Wesley Centre.

The site of special interest is the focus of an exhibition which runs until July 8.

It is being staged by Maltby Local History Society and the Wood Lea and Crags Meadow Steering Group and was opened by Lord and Lady Scarbrough.

Society chairman Alice Rodgers said: “In the late 19th century people from Rotherham and Sheffield visited, in droves, to enjoy and appreciate the extraordinary beauty and wildlife of Maltby Crags and the Roche Abbey Valley.

“We hope that the exhibition will raise awareness of this very special and that it will encourage more people to visit to enjoy its scenery and views.”

Also included are displays about the current uses—and anti-social abuses—of the area, together with ideas for its future.

The free exhibition is open from 9am to 4pm weekdays, from 11am to 3pm on Saturdays and 2pm to 4pm Sundays.
