The Westgate pub has rebooked its Saturday night entertainment after confusion arose over Covid-related rules.

Music promoter Mick Hill said Rotherham Council’s Covid-19 service manager, Denise Fedyszyn, had confirmed bands were allowed to perform at the venue.

Mick claims he had previously been told at a licensees meeting last week that planned concerts could not go ahead because people would “get excited and move around”.

“She (Denise) has now come back saying they didn’t say that — but they did,” said Mick.

In an update this week, Mick said the manager had confirmed the outside gig could take place as long as it was socially distanced.

“I think a lot of blame has to go back to the government — they have left it so vague,” added Mick.

“I think everyone, even Covid people, don’t really understand it. Sometimes we don’t get it as everybody is scratching their heads saying, ‘What’s what?”

After cancelling a performance by Valley Road, indie-rock band Sumo will now be performing a string of well-known anthems from 7pm to 10pm.

Entry is free, no booking is required.
