Line-up unveiled for Rotherham’s biggest free music festiva

THE organisers of Rotherham’s mightiest free musical festival have unveiled plans for this year’s event, promising it will be “bigger, better and bolder”.

Mick Hill and Richard Millard, who are putting on Slamfest at six town centre venues on July 6 and 7, have unveiled a bill featuring 400 local musicians.

Mick said: “Slamfest 2013 promises to be a giant leap forward from its successful maiden event held almost one year ago.  “It’s a free event consisting almost entirely of Rotherham bands and musicians, playing at Rotherham venues to anybody wanting to come along and listen, or in the case of the main All Saints Square stage, people who are just passing or shopping.”

Specialist stages can be found this time around at Memory Lane (indie); Rotherham Trades (metal); The High House (rock covers); Bridge Inn (punk/alternative) and Imperial Buildings (acoustic).

There are two main stages — at All Saints’ Square on the Saturday and Clifton Park on the Sunday plus Clifton Park bandstand on the Sunday.

Music on the Main Stage in All Saints’ Square begins at noon and offers nearly eight hours of local music, headlining with Havana Rocks, while other venues will be showcasing bands later into the evening.

The entertainment on the Sunday will feature two stages at Clifton Park and another eight hours of music, with Haze and Goatleaf headlining.

Bands performing during the festival include Be the Revolution, Diamond Velocity, Sporadic Slaughter, For Pete’s Sake and Swansong.
