LETTER: So much for saving the planet

WHEN I was young we had a metal dustbin that lasted for decades, and we put paper at the side of it, and the dustbin men came to our door and took the rubbish away.

The, the plastic wheely bin came and we had to drag it to the roadside. Then we suddenly had four wheely bins and a bewildering calendar of which one to take out.

Even though Rotherham Council “can’t get money from local government”, they still found money for all these plastic bins.

Last week the council were doing something in front of the flats across the road from me, it looked like a bike park or something.

Turns out it’s for communal bins to replace all the plastic wheely bins.

Seems Rotherham Council is spending yet more money it reckons it doesn’t have to replace all the plastic bins it inflicted on us over the years.

So, in the end, we started with a metal bin when I was younger, and we have ended up with a metal bin, albeit larger.

My only concern is what will they do with all those plastic bins?

So much for saving the planet!
