Late festive fix from Phoenix at the Rotherham Civic

You can get a fresh fix of festive fun at the Rotherham Civic Theatre later this month as the Phoenix Players bring Alan Ayckbourn’s Seasons Greetings to the stage.

MISSING the Christmas spirit, the battle over the TV remote, the family get-togethers and the pantomimes?

Phoenix love a good farce and they are back on that familiar turf following the well-received but more bittersweet Salt of the Earth last autumn.

The play takes place over three days from Christmas Eve onwards and features a row over violence on TV, a less-than-successful puppet show and a couple’s late-night helping of romance being thwarted by a troublesome cuddly toy.

Long before National Lampoon’s Clarks Griswold took Christmas lights displays to the next level, Ayckbourn had already portrayed characters obsessing over flashing electrical arrangements, and he even takes things into darker territory after one of the dysfunctional family is mistaken for a looter.

Seasons Greetings is at the Civic from January 21 to 25.

Tickets are available now priced at £9.50 from the Civic Theatre Box Office or at https://rotherhamtheatres.ticketsolve.com/shows.
