Artistic director Robert Hastie’s inaugural production for Sheffield Theatres opens at the Crucible on Wednesday evening — the first time that Shakespeare’s fast-paced, gripping thriller will have been seen on the theatre’s stage — and runs until June 10.

Samuel West returns to the city to play Brutus.

Familiar to television and film audiences for his recent roles in Mr Selfridge and Suffragette, he was also Artistic Director of Sheffield Theatres from 2005 - 2007. He is joined by Elliot Cowan (Mark Antony), previously seen on the Crucible stage in Don Carlos and on screen in Cilla and Luther.

Chipo Chung (Fortitude) plays Octavia/Portia with Jonathan Hyde (Titanic, Jumanji) as Julius Caesar, while Zoë Waites (The Other Boleyn Girl), last seen on the Crucible stage in Hobson’s Choice, plays Cassius.

The cast are also joined by an ensemble cast of Sheffield People's Theatre members.

Topical as ever, Shakespeare’s searing political drama asks, when the majority chose a dangerous leader, what should the honourable citizen do?

Tickets for Julius Caesar can be purchased from Sheffield Theatres’ Box Office in person, by phone on 0114 249 6000 or online at sheffieldtheatres.co.uk and are priced from £15 (concessions available).
