JUBILEE: Dressing up to mark the coronation

EASTWOOD resident Winifred Wootton remembers the coronation well — it was the day she dressed up as a miner.

Winifred (79), then of Sheridan Drive, Herringthorpe, said: “I’m on the front row of the picture dressed as a miner, and my sister is behind me with the turban on.

“We all got dressed up. My sister won the competition, and there was a tea party and with loads of food on big tables.

“It was great. Everything you can imagine, we had it on those tables.

“I’m proud of the Queen. I think she’s brilliant, and I’m really proud of my country.”
