History group’s meeting tomorrow on brutal woodlands

THE unspoken brutal history of woodlands will be discussed by a history group tomorrow (Wednesday).

Mexborough & District Heritage Society’s latest meeting will include a talk by local historian Ken Wyatt titled Woodlands, Warfare and Inhumanity.

Taking place the day before Hallowe’en at Rowms Lane Social Club in Swinton, the talk, from 7pm onwards, will look at how man has used wood for pursuing conflict and inflicting cruelty over the years and how woodlands have had a role in shaping this history.

It will also take a look at the Wath Wood Volunteers, who were active in the Napoleonic Era.
