HEALTH & WELLBEING: Prescribing for over- the-counter medicines is changing

In March 2018, following a public consultation NHS England published national guidance on reducing the prescribing of over the counter medicines.

Some medicines, available to buy over the counter (OTC) form pharmacies and supermarkets, are no longer prescribed by GP practices in Rotherham. These are medicines used to treat minor, short-term health conditions which you can easily treat yourself or will get better on their own.

You can get more advice form community pharmacies, who play a key role in advising patients on minor conditions that you can treat yourself. Pharmacists are experts on medicines and can also signpost to other appropriate health services if needed. Many pharmacies have extended opening hours, including evenings and weekends.
