Hawaiian fun for village carnival

GRASS skirts and hula girls will be the order of the day when a village carnival takes on a Hawaiian theme.

A parade of colourful floats and a surf machine will be central to the colourful theme when villagers in Harthill welcome visitors to their annual carnival on Saturday.

Giving a truly South Yorkshire flavour, however, Dinnington Colliery Band will be providing the music and a host of traditional stalls, refreshments and fairground rides will fill the carnival field.

A kick-boxing display, vintage tractors, shire horses and Punch and Judy will ensure there is something for everyone.

Even the animal lovers are catered for thanks to a dog show—organised in association with Thornberry Animal Sanctuary—and a falconry Display.

Tomorrow’s Hawaii and the South Seas-themed carnival parade starts at 12.15pm and will arrive on Carnival field at around 1pm.

Admission to the carnival is £2.50 for adults and £1 for children and senior citizens. Parking is free.
