Grimm & Co wants beastly help in Rotherham

A LITERACY charity needs hands-on help turning an old pub into an inviting apothecary for magical beasts.

Rotherham-grown Grimm & Co has acquired the Town Gate, on Doncaster Gate, as a base for its creative writing workshops.

The sessions will be part-funded by a fairytale-themed shop selling parody products like heartburn for dragons and invisibility lotions.

Children will learn story telling, poetry writing and animation in workshops hidden behind the shop.

But the premises are currently undecorated and still filled with the former pub’s old fittings.

Charity director Deborah Bullivant said: “We’ve already got some great volunteers, but we really need some more.

“It would be good to have local people take ownership of this and lend a hand.”

She added: “You don’t need any special clearance or checks as long as you can help with painting or decorating.

“If there are any upholsterers out there who can volunteer some time, we desperately need them.”

Local firms are already getting behind the charity; Willmott Dixon is helping to clear the site, while Airmaster has installed free air conditioning units.

New York Stadium sponsors AESSEAL have donated money for the renovation while Tech Spray is building a slide.

“This is absolutely wonderful and we welcome this sort of support that will make our centre great,”\!said Deborah.
