The children’s literature festival was presented by Hull Libraries, as part of Hull UK City of Culture 2017.

Six volunteers from Grimm and Co — the Rotherham writing workshop, hidden behind an apothecary for magical creatures — took games and craft activities to the festival.

Sarah Christie, Grimm’s creative learning manager, said: “It was a hot and hectic, but really successful weekend for Grimm.

“We were delighted to be invited by festival director Ellen Bianchini. She had heard about Grimm and visited us last December.

“She was very inspired and asked us to magically pop up at the Big Malarkey at deliver some fantastical activities that would inspire children to think creatively and get writing.”

Sarah added: “We work Yorkshire-wide, so it was great to have the opportunity to deliver literacy activities to children and their families in Hull.”

Grimm and Co was recently nominated for a Welcome to Yorkshire tourism award, in the small attractions category.

Ellen said: “It was brilliant to have Grimm at The Big Malarkey. Their activities made a big impression on staff and the public.

“I think a staff outing to Grimm will be in the pipeline soon.”
