Grieg and Beethoven in the programme for Wentworth memorial concert

A CHURCH in Wentworth will echo to the sound of music and song this weekend for an annual memorial concert.

A CHURCH will echo to the sound of music and song this weekend for an annual memorial concert.

The Tom Downing Colliery Concert will be held at Holy Trinity Church in Wentworth at 7.30pm on Saturday, with singing and piano music from soprano Kate Hyland-Collier and church organist Richard Taylor.

The concert will include opera arias, songs by Grieg, a collection by Wolf and Beethoven’s sonata The Tempest.

Proceeds will be split between the church’s Father Willis Organ Maintenance  Fund and Leukaemia Research, in memory of former church warden, benefactor and farmer Tom Downing Collier, who died from the disease in 2009.

Tickets are priced at £8 for adults and £7 for concessions and will be available on the door.
