Greasbrough Operatic Society cast ready to take on Swiss roles

THE Rotherham Civic will be alive with The Sound of Music next week.

Greasbrough Operatic Society presents the well-loved musical for its 90th anniversary production.

The story of how Maria Rainer, an irrepressible postulant in pre-war Austria, captures the hearts of the Von Trapp family and helps them to evade Nazi rule by escaping to Switzerland features the songs Do-Re-Mi, My Favourite Things, Edelweiss, The Lonely Goatherd and the inspiring Climb Ev’ry Mountain.

“We have worked hard to encourage both old and new members to take part in this show —and are proud of the way they have supported and encouraged the younger members who have joined to play the Von Trapp children,” said director Helen Toop.

“It has been a tough year with our original musical director, Catherine Sarjeant, breaking her wrist in February and having to find a new MD to step into the breach.

“We couldn’t have asked for a more talented replacement than Matt Symonds, who joined in April to pull all the music together.”

The show will run from Tuesday, May 7, to Saturday, May 11, with concessionary tickets for under 16s on Friday night and Saturday matinee.

Tickets start from £7 and the show begins at 7.15pm every night or at 2.15pm for the Saturday matinee.
